
St. Anthony's Game
January 12, 2007
On Saturday, the Lady Paladins played St. Anthony as the final game of the Scholarship Fund for Inner City Children Basketball Fest. Najah Chambers won the ball for PC, but the Friars made the game's first foul shot. Jessica Biggs quickly gained the lead with a short two, and later hit a long jump shot, after causing two turnovers. Chambers also put in a short two, immediately followed by two from Jamie Klein and two from Biggs. Shantel Suncar came in and sank two foul shots. Klein completed a fast break with a lay up. The first quarter ended with the Lady Paladins ahead 14-9.
The second quarter began with a foul shot from Megan Rambone and one from Christina Sanders. Biggs and Klein both put in two. Biggs followed up with her first three pointer of the game. The first half ended with PC leading 24-15.
The third quarter began with three points from Brittany Bucko. Lauren Milligan followed up with a long two and a three pointer. She ended the third quarter with two more, 32-23.
The fourth quarter racked up many fouls for PC and St. Anthony. The Lady Paladins began in foul trouble, and shortly put the Friars into the double bonus. Biggs fouled out of the game with 1 minute remaining with 13 points. The game ended 45-40.
Hackenack Game
January 8, 2008
On Tuesday, the Lady Paladins entered the Hackensack Gym to fight the Lady Comets after a five day break. Najah Chambers took the jump, but the ball took an odd bounce out of bounds. Jessica Biggs put in the first thirteen points, and helped the team to keep the Lady Comets at two, ending the quarter 13-2.
The second half began with an intrception from Megan Rambone, but remained scoreless until the Lady Comets put one in the basket. Lauren Milligan with two three pointers, a long jump shot, and two foul shots. Shantel Suncar also sank one of her foul shots. The Lady Comets went on an six point spree until tne first half ended, with the Lady Paladins leading 24-10.
Rambone opened the half with a three, followed by two from Chambers. Brittany Bucko put in her first two for the game, followed by a foul shot. The third quarter ended with the Lady Paladins still ahead 34-18.
The Lady Comets were not discouraged starting the fourth quarter, putting in a three pointer from the corner. The Lady Paladins stayed scoreless as the Lady Paladins quickly rose up. Milligan put PC back on track with a short jump shot, followed by two from Bucko. The Comets still crept onward, putting pressure on the Lady Paladins, but they held on to win the game 40-32
Secaucus Game
December 30, 2007
On Sunday, Paramus Catholic went into their third game of the Lady Hawks Holiday Hoop Jam, trying to beat out Secaucus for tthe fifth place position, after beating North Bergen on Friday. To start the game, Najah Chambers won the tap, followed by a lay up by Britanny Bucko. Two minutes in, Megan Rambone put in a foul shot. The Lady Paladins kept the Patriots Scoreless for anotherr minute, but the Patriots toook the lead 6-3 half way in. Chambers put two on the board, ending the half with the Patriots ahead 12-7.
The second quarter started with Bucko sinking two. The Patriots followed with two, but fouled Mulligan in the Bonus, who tacked on two more. Jessica Biggs sank a lay up after rebounding Bucko's fouls shot. The first half ended with the Lady Paladins behind 21-15.
Chambers began the second half scoring a two pointer after scooping up a loose ball. She then continued by putting in one foul shot. Bucko stole to ball to put in another basket. The third quarter ended with the Lady Paladins behind 43-30.
The fourth quarter put the Lady Paladins in a tough situation, starting with seven fouls and down thirteen points when Biggs fouled out. The Lady Paladins attempted to gain the lead but were unsuccesful end with a final score of Patriots 55-37.
North Bergen Game
December 28, 2007
On Friday, after suffering a loss to Moore Catholic in their first tournament game on Wednesday, the Lady Paladins went into their first consolation game against North Bergen. The Bruins were coming off a loss to Wayne Valley for their first tournament game.
Najah Chambers took the jump, and the Lady Paladins were in immediate scoring position, when the ball was knocked out of bounds. North Bergen took possession putting in the first basket, but that was quickly returned when Brittany Bucko put in a short shot. The Bruins picked up four more points, but Chambers and Jessica Biggs sunk two each. An inbound after a Bruins foul shot, Jamie Klein had an open, long two pointer, followed by Megan Rambone laying one in. Biggs put in another jumpshot five minutes in, raising the score to 12-7. Shantel Suncar received a pass inside putting two on the board, immediately followed by Rambone sinking another basket. Bucko then intercepted a long pass followed by a jump shot to end the first quarter 18-11.
To start the second quarter, Biggs put in an inside jump shot after picking up a loose ball. Chambers held strong in the paint, keeping the bruins on a short leash, in addition to putting in two foul shots and three layups. Bucko grabbed a rebound and put in the layup followed by a two on one with Lauren Mulligan raising the Lady Paladin's score to 29. Suncar sunk short jumpshot right before blocking a shot. The Lady Paladins ended the half leading the Bruins 31-18.
Mulligan put in the first points of the half after a fast break pass from Rambone. Chambers went straight up and blocked two shots in a row. Biggs hit two foul shots off of a blocking foul. Bucko then crashed the boards after a bullet pass from Jamie Klein. Biggs grabbed a loose ball and put in another two points. Sanders sunk another two after a fast break. The third quarter ended with the Lady Paladins ahead 45-23.
Mulligan inbounded the ball to start the fourth, but possesion is quickly lost by a traveling violation. Mulligan then stole the ball, followed by a two pointer. Chambers put in another layup. Klein dribbled the ball up the entire court to put in an easy layup. Bucko sinks another two followed by two foul shots to end the game 56-53.
Moore Catholic Game
December 26, 2007
The Lady Paladins left the comfort of their home win on Saturday to take on the Lady Mavericks of Moore Catholic High School. Their first match up in the Lady Hawks Holiday Hoop Jam placed Cassidy Moore tapping off to start the game.
The Lady Mavericks won the tap, but the ball was quickly stolen by Raeshonn Corbo. After the first two minutes, Coach Al Roth called a time out with PC holding a 2 point lead. A few unnecessary fouls and missed shots later, the Lady Mavericks took control of the lead. Brittany Bucko put in a quick lay up after a turn over, boosting the Lady Paladins moral. The Lady Paladins caused a inbound turn over lay up. Corbo then proceeds to intercept a dangerous pass giving herself a fast break to end the first quarter with the Lady Paladins leading 8-7.
The second quarter was initially controlled by the Lady Mavericks until Bucko puts in a rebound off a shot by Jamie Klein. The Lady Paladins then suffer two injuries to Moore and Corbo in a matter of three minutes. The first half ended with the Lady Paladins behind 20-12.
An inbound to Corbo put the Lady Paladins in scoring position, but the ball was stolen. After many bad passes, the Lady Paladins raised their score to 18. Corbo contributed 5 points in 15 seconds after two foul shots, followed immediately by a steal by Jessica Biggs, which Corbo put in and one foul shot. Five minutes into the half, the Lady Paladins raised their score to 22 closing the gap to only 6 points. A few more baskets by both teams ended the third quarter with the Lady Mavericks ahead 33-27.
The forth quarter began with an inbound leading to a violent jump ball ending with Corbo sprawled on the gym floor. The Lady Paladins quickly in-bounded the ball ending with Biggs putting the first two points of the forth quarter on the board. Corbo sank a three pointer putting the Lady Paladins behind a mere 2 points. Corbo found herself on the floor again where she had re-injured her already hurting ankle. She joined Moore on the injury bench to watch the remainder of the quarter. The Lady Paladins pressed on, and managed to tie the score at 42. Bucko and Biggs kept the team stay in a 1 point range of the Lady Mavericks. Two foul shots by the Lady Mavericks ended the game in the last 0.7 seconds. The final score placed the Lady Paladins behind only three points, being 49-46.
S.D.A. Game
December 22, 2007
The Blue Devils of SDA won the tap, but the ball was turned over to Raeshonn Corbo. Two minutes into the game, Cassidy Moore puts in the first basket after scooping up a loose ball. Jessica Biggs followed with a long two pointer. The inbound was stolen, and Lauren Milligan put in the games first three pointer. By the end of first quarter, the Lady paladins had racked up 19 points, while holding the Blue Devils down with only 5.
The beginning of the second quarter, the ball was inbounded by the Blue Devils, but the ball was stolen by Brittany Bucko, and a quick pass to the wide open Jamie Klein allowed for an easy, long two pointer. The half ended with the Lady Paladins dominating the Blue Devils 35- 15.
The Second half opened with an immediate three pointer from Rae Corbo. After a few unnecessary fouls, the Blue Devils raised their score into the low twenties, while the Lady Paladins hit 45 before the middle of the third quarter. The Blue Devils called a tim out after Rae Corbo intercepted a pass and scored two points bringing the score to 48-20. At the end of the third, Jessica Biggs led the team with 15 points closely followed by Raeshonn with a close 13 and Brittany Bucko with 12. This trio had their share of steals and blocks, aiding PC with a 27 point defecit, 52-25 by the end of the third quarter.
An inbound play put the Lady Paladins in immediate scoring position although they did not pull through. A time out called by Coach Roth pumped some energy into the girls helping them pull into a 28 point lead. A substitution brought in captain Ashley Wade who scooped up a fair share of loose balls and a few points. Amanda Slavin scored a late foul shot to give the Lady Paladins a final score of 59-31.
